Jacks Or Better
The game of Jacks or Better is the most commonly played game when playing video poker. In video poker, you play against a machine instead of other players.
In regular casinos or online casinos, Jacks or Better video poker can be played as a single or multi-line game. In the single game of Jacks or Better video poker you are dealt one hand of five cards, and you choose which cards that you want to discard.
You are then dealt replacement cards, and if you end up with a winning hand you win a certain amount of money, depending on how much you bet and what the winning hand is.
In the multi-line games, you play multiple hands at once. With video poker machines, you can usually bet anywhere from 5 cents a hand up to $100 a hand or more. Payouts and odds can vary from machine to machine, but the schedule below is the general rule.
General Jacks or Better Payout Schedule
Jacks or Better: A pair of Jacks, Queens, Kings
or Aces. Payout: 1 to 1 (You break even). Odds: 1 in 4.
Two Pair: Two pairs of any cards; such
as two 5’s and two 7’s. Payout: 2 to 1. Odds: 1 in 7.
Three of a Kind: Three of any card; such
as three 4’s. Payout: 3 to 1. Odds: 1 in 13.
Straight: Five cards of any suit in sequence;
such as 6,7,8,9,10. Payout: 4 to 1. Odds: 1 in 89.
Flush: Five cards all of one suit; such
as 2 of spades, 5 of spades, 8 of spades, 9 of spades, and
Jack of spades. Payout: 6 to 1. Odds: 1 in 90.
Full House: Three of a Kind and Two of
Kind; such as three 6’s and two 10’s. Payout: 9 to 1. Odds:
1 in 86.
Four of a Kind: Four of any card; such
as four Jacks. Payout: 25 to 1. Odds: 1 in 423.
Straight Flush: Five cards in sequence
and all the same suit; such as 2 of hearts, 3 of hearts,
4 of hearts, 5 of hearts, and 6 of hearts. Payout: 50 to
1. Odds: 1 in 9148.
Royal Flush: 10 to Ace in sequence, all
of the same suit; such as 10 of spades, Jacks of spades,
Queen of spades, King of spades, and Ace of spades. Payout:
250 to 1. Odds: 1 in 40,390.
Many gamblers prefer playing video poker to playing slot machines, as you have more control over the final results.
