Joker Poker guide

Joker Poker, also known as Joker Wild, is a derivative of standard video poker, a game which dates back to the mid 1970’s. Joker Poker differs from standard poker in that the game uses 53 cards, the standard deck plus one joker, which is designated a wild card, and can be used in lieu of a card of any face value to make a winning combination. Joker Poker is quick to play, can provide a large payout, depending upon the initial number of coins bet, and relies on player skill to evaluate their opening hand.

The Joker Poker player chooses to bet from one to five coins and receives five cards dealt face up. The player must then evaluate their hand and determine which, if any, cards to discard. Once chosen, the computer will allocate the same number of replacement cards and determines the best value of the hand, including the joker if applicable, and pays out according to the result. Note that in video poker the player is attempting to get a winning hand as defined by the Payout table for the game provider, they are not playing against anyone else.

Joker Poker Betting Options

Betting options are as follows:

  • Natural Royal Flush - This is the highest hand in standard video poker and consists of the following cards, all of the same suit: Ten, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace
  • Five of a Kind - Four cards of the same denomination plus a Joker
  • Joker Royal Flush - The Joker is required to complete a Royal Flush
  • Straight Flush - A combination of five cards of the same suit, all in sequence, can include a Joker
  • Four of a Kind - A combination of four cards of the same denomination, can include a Joker
  • Full House - Three cards of one denomination and two cards of another denomination, may include a Joker
  • Flush - Five cards of the same suit, may include a Joker.
  • Straight - Five cards of any suit in sequence, may include a Joker
  • Three of a Kind - Three cards of the same denomination plus any two other cards, may include a Joker
  • Two Pairs - Two different pairs and any fifth card
  • Kings or Better - A pair of Kings or Aces and three other unmatched cards

So if you relish the opportunity to exercise a degree of skill in a fast-paced gaming environment then Joker Poker is worth investigating.
